2018 Taiwan Fellowship Online Application extended to 15 July 2017

The Taiwan Fellowship programme 2018 will open for online applications on 1st May 2017. The deadline for applications will be 15th July 2017.

The Taiwan Fellowship was established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to award foreign experts and scholars interested in research related to Taiwan, the Asia-Pacific region, New Southbound Policy, Taiwan and regional economic integration, and Taiwan’s linkage with the Asia-Pacific region and the world, the chance to conduct advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan.

The fellowship includes payments of monthly grants paid at the beginning of every month (42 NTD = 1GBP). Professors, associate professors, research fellows and associate research fellows will be entitled to NT$60,000 while assistant professors, assistant research fellows and doctoral candidates will be entitled to NT$50,000. Recipients will also be entitled to one round-trip, economy class ticket for the most direct route to Taiwan (the subsidy will be decided by MOFA in accordance with the relevant regulations). Accident insurance (plus a medical insurance for accidental injuries) of up to NT$1 million will also be provided.

The recipients of the fellowship will begin their research in Taiwan in January 2018. The duration of the programme will be from 3 to 12 months and must be within the year 2018. The fellowship cannot extend to 2019 (i.e. to obtain a full 12 months the recipient must begin the fellowship in January 2018 to end by December of the same year).

Applicants should first submit an online application form and then submit the following documents to the ROC embassy or Representative Office in or nearest to their country of residence:

  • Application form
  • Resume (including a publication list)
  • Research proposal (three pages using a standard research format)
  • Either two letters of recommendation, or, one letter of recommendation and one letter of agreement from the highest administrative director of their institution.
