University of Nottingham hosts Taiwan Studies Roundtable

From 22-23 June, the 2017 Taiwan studies joint roundtable was held at the University of Nottingham.
Titled ‘The Pattern of Taiwan’s Democratisation’, the roundtable featured a series of discussions on developments within Taiwan, as well as evaluations of Taiwan’s relevance beyond the East-Asian region.
Under the broad theme of Taiwanese democracy, discussion topics included sovereignty, diplomacy, comparisons between different East-Asian democracies, the role of Taishangs, the power of the media, electoral reform and party politics, as well as Taiwanese civil society.
Co-organisers of the international conference included the Taiwan Studies Programme, University of Nottingham, and the European Research Centre on Contemporary Taiwan (ERCCT), the University of Tuebingen.
