Taiwan legislators promote defence cooperation in USA

From 31 July - 3 August, a delegation from Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan visited the United States to promote defence cooperation between Taiwan and the USA.
Consisting of cross-party members from the Legislative Yuan’s Foreign Affairs and National Defence Committee, the delegation met with US Representative Ed Royce, the Chairman of the House of Foreign Affairs Committee, and paid visits to Luke Air Force Base (Luke AFB) in Arizona as well as US Pacific Command (PACOM) in Hawaii.
Meeting with Representative Ed Royce in Los Angeles on 31 July, the delegation discussed arms sales to Taiwan and Taiwan’s participation in international organisations. They also touched on the Trump administration’s Taiwan policy, the situation in the Asia-Pacific, cyberattacks, and efforts to free Taiwanese human rights activist Lee Ming-che, who has been detained by China since March.
In the visit to Luke AFB on 1 August, the delegation met with US Representative Trent Franks and observed Republic of China (Taiwan) Air Force pilots receiving flight training. The delegation discussed with Representative Franks ways to improve bilateral military cooperation and highlighted the importance of this for Taiwan’s national security. The visit was followed by a visit to PACOM.
