On 26 July, Taiwan and Belize signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on bilateral cooperation, underscoring the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The MOU was signed by Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs David Tawei Lee and his Belizean counterpart, Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington, during a ceremony at Belmopan, the capital of Belize.
In a speech at the ceremony, Foreign Minister Lee expressed gratitude to the Belizean people, stating both countries will continue to build on their existing ties as they pursue more opportunities for cooperation. The Taiwanese foreign minister was also presented with the Order of Distinction, a prestigious honour awarded to recognise valuable services and contributions to Belize.
Minister Lee was visiting the country as the leader of a delegation that included Timothy T.Y. Hsiang, secretary-general of the International Cooperation and Development Fund, a Taiwanese foreign aid organisation supported by the government of Taiwan.
