On 7 September, TRO Representative David Lin led a delegation to Portsmouth as part of efforts to promote Taiwan Studies in the University of Portsmouth and city-to-city cooperation.
The delegation attended a lunch meeting with the city’s Deputy Lord Mayor, Lee Mason and city councillors to discuss business relations and city-to-city exchange. At the invitation of Dr Isabelle Cheng, Senior Lecturer in East Asian and International Development Studies, Representative Lin co-hosted a reception of an international conference organised by Dr Cheng titled ‘Rethinking Transnationalism in the Global World’ with the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Ken Ellcome. In remarks, the representative welcomed scholars from across the world and thanked Dr Cheng for her efforts in promoting Taiwan Studies.
During the visit, the representative discussed with the Lord Mayor the prospect of twinning Portsmouth with a port city in Taiwan to promote city-to-city cooperation. Representative Lin also met with the University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor of Global Engagement, Dr Chris Chang, to discuss opportunities for educational cooperation through Taiwan’s Youth Mobility Scheme, a scheme for young people in Britain to work and study in Taiwan, as well as encouraging Taiwanese students to enrol at the University.
