On 24 October, the London East Asia Film Festival (LEAFF) launched ‘Taiwan Night’, a celebration of Taiwanese filmmaking held at Regent Street Cinema.
Hosted by Representative Lin and Director of the London East Asia Film Festival, Ms. Hyejung Jeon, the event screened two prominent Taiwanese films including ‘Small Talk’, a documentary exploring a woman’s desire to connect with her mother following a difficult upbringing and ‘The Receptionist’, a suspenseful drama about a young woman’s struggle to make a living in post-recession London and the underworld that threatens to consume her. Each screening was followed by a Q&A session with the film’s director, Hui-chen Huang (Small Talk) and Jenny Lu (The Receptionist).
The event formed part of LEAFF’s 2017 programme which has showcased a wide variety of films from across East-Asia. The second largest festival of its kind, LEAFF was established in 2015 as a non-profit arts organization to champion the growing collaboration and diversity in East Asian filmmaking.
