Taiwan's 2022 Tang Prize, Asia's equivalent to the Nobel Prize, has been awarded to British Art Historian Professor Dame Jessica Rawson in the category of Sinology.
The 2022 Tang Prize in Sinology has been awarded to Professor Dame Jessica Rawson, for her gift and mastery of the craft of reading the art and artifacts of Chinese civilisation. By giving voice to the ancient world of objects, she has taught generations how to look into the past, and her acuity and vast visual learning have given new insight into the lineages, transformations, and migrations of mute things.
The Tang Prize Foundation was founded by Samuel (Yen-Liang) Yin, chairman of Ruentex Group and chief development officer, chief technology officer, and chief engineer of the Ruentex Construction Group. Dr Samuel Yin established the Tang Prize in December 2012 to encourage individuals across the world to chart new paths to achieve sustainable development by recognising and supporting contributors for their work in the four major fields of Sustainable Development, Biopharmaceutical Science, Sinology and Rule of Law. The Tang Prize is global in its reach, with laureates selected on the basis of the originality of their work and their contributions to society, irrespective of their nationality or ethnicity.
