The 2024 Taiwan Fellowship programme will open for online applications from 1 May 2023. The deadline for applications will be 30 June 2023.
DEADLINE EXTENSION: We are pleased to announce that we have extended the deadline for application until 8 JULY 2023.
The Taiwan Fellowship was established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Its purpose is to offer opportunities for conducting advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan for foreign experts and scholars, who are interested in researching Taiwan (including Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy, as well as its links with the Asia-Pacific and the world), cross-Strait relations, Asia-Pacific regional security, global cyber security and combating fake news, gender equality, sinology, as well as defence and strategy.
The fellowship includes a stipend paid at the beginning of every month. The awarded professors, associate professors, research fellows and associate research fellows are entitled to NT$ 60,000 monthly stipend while the awarded assistant professors, assistant research fellows and doctoral candidates are entitled to round NT$ 50,000 (38 NTD = 1GBP) . Recipients are also entitled to one round-trip economy class ticket for the most direct route to Taiwan (the subsidy for travel will be decided by MOFA in accordance with the relevant guidelines). Accident insurance (plus medical insurance for accidental injuries) of up to NT$ 1 million is also provided.
The recipients of the fellowship can begin their research in Taiwan in January 2024. The duration of the programme is from 3 to 12 months and must be within the year 2024. The fellowship cannot extend to 2025 (i.e. to obtain a full 12 months the recipient must begin the fellowship in January 2024 and end by December of the same year).
