VISA INFORMATION IN BRIEF June 24, 2009

• Visa Exemptions

I. Citizens from —Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungry, Iceland, Italy, Republic of Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States of America—are allowed to enter the Republic of China (ROC) on Taiwan without a visa for a stay of up to 30 days (no extension is permitted), so long as they meet the following requirements.

1. They must have a passport valid for at least six months.

2. They must have a confirmed return air (steamer) ticket or an air (steamer) ticket and a visa for the next destination.

3. They must have no over-stay record for the past one year.

II. Citizens from –Ireland, Japan and the United Kingdom are allowed to enter the Republic of China (ROC) on Taiwan without a visa for a stay of up to 90 days (no extension is permitted), so long as they meet the above-mentioned requirements.

III. Citizens from —India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam with a U.S. Permanent Resident Card or valid US visa must go through www.immigration.gov.tw then click online Application for Authentication Certificate to get permission. If qualified, one can stay up to 30 days if they follow the above-mentioned requirements.

• Visitor Visas

People who plan to visit Taiwan may be issued single or multiple entry visitor visas with durations of stay of up to sixty days. The requirements are as follows:

1. They must have a passport valid for at least six months.

2. They must complete a visa application form.

3. They must provide two recent photos.

4. Other documents verify the purpose of visit such as business letter, flight itinerary, marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.

5. US passport holders: A processing fee of $131.00 will be charged; an additional $50.00 will be charged for expedited processing.

Non-US passport holders: $50 for a single-entry; $100 for a multiple-entry. An additional 50% will be charged for expedited processing.

6. American passports with validity less than 6 months must apply visa before arriving Taiwan. If applying visa upon arrival, single entry landing visa may be granted for a processing fee of $155.00 ($131.00 plus a special handling fee of $24.00).

• Resident Visas
Foreigners who wish to stay for more than six months in Taiwan to conduct business, study, join family or
take employment are required to apply for resident visas.
Requirements:

1. They must have a passport valid for at least six months (unless otherwise stipulated by treaties or
agreement).

2. They must complete a visa application form.

3. They must provide two recent photos.

4. They must provide other supporting documents or official letters of approval from a competent authority of the ROC on Taiwan.

5. Other relevant documents.

6. US passport holders: A processing fee of $131.00 will be charged.

Non-US passport holders: Single-entry resident visa fee: $66; Multiple-entry resident visa fee: $132.00. A Resident Visa is valid for three months. Permitted length of stay is determined after arrival and is specified in the Alien Resident Certificate. The normal length of stay permitted ranges from one year to three years. A re-entry permit will be marked in the passport as soon as the ARC is issued. The re-entry permit functions as a multiple-entry visa.
