Director Laha Mebow’s “Hang in There, Kids!” attracted Washingtonians’ attention this past Saturday at Filmfest DC 2017. It will be screened again on April 29th.
Before the first screening, Festival Director Tony Gittens welcomed the audience and introduced James Lee, Deputy Representative of the Taipei Economic and cultural Representative Office in the United States. Deputy Representative Lee delivered opening remarks, expressing appreciation for Tony Gittens’ continued support of Taiwanese Films, as well as giving a brief introduction to the movie.
Far different from the issues raised by the Festival’s other films, such as immigration, social justice and the free press, “Hang in There, Kids!,” is a movie close to many people’s daily-lives, providing a fresh, warm, and provocative cinema experience that audience really enjoyed.
“Hang in There, Kids!” depicts the lives of three indigenous children who are optimistic, energetic and playful while facing difficult family issues. Despite their tough environment, materially as well as spiritually, the three kids live under the positive influence of their handicapped after-school teacher who showers them with love and warmth.
This event was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and in collaboration with Filmfest DC. For more information, please visit http://www.filmfestdc.org/filmView.cfm?passID=62
