DG Steven Tai gave a speech at a Kiwanis Club of Griffin luncheon on June 22. In his presentation, “Taiwan and the USA: closer than you think,” DG explained the relationship between Taiwan and the USA, Taiwan and the state of Georgia, and cross-strait relations between Taiwan and mainland China. He also talked about the East China Sea Peace Initiative, the South China Sea Peace Initiative, and Taiwan’s fishing agreements with Japan and the Philippines. Furthermore, he noted that Taiwan’s vibrant democracy celebrated the inauguration of the country’s first female president, Tsai Ing-wen, in May. President Tsai supports and honors Taiwan’s longstanding commitment to democracy and human rights, and its contribution to peace and stability in the region.
It was “International Week” for the Kiwanis Club of Griffin. More than 100 Kiwanis members attended the lunch meeting. DG Tai was invited by Dr. Chang Chung-Jan of UGA, a former chairman of the Kiwanis Club of Griffin.
