“South China Sea ruling invalid without Taiwan's participation” is the title of a column in today's issue of Georgia Asian Times. In the article, TECO Director General Huei-Yuan (Steven) Tai noted that a recent decision by the Permanent Court of Arbitration regarding disputed areas in the South China Sea has no legally binding force on Taiwan. The international tribunal failed to include Taiwan in its proceedings despite the fact that the Republic of China (ROC) is entitled to all rights of the South China Sea islands and their relevant waters.
DG Tai pointed out that stability and peace in the East and South China seas are in the best interests of the United States, and emphasized that Taiwan will take resolute action to defend its territory and maritime rights. He noted that the ROC hopes to resolve disputes in the area through negotiations based on equality.
