Director General Vincent Liu attended a Sister Airport Agreement Signing Ceremony between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Roberts International Airport (RIA) of Liberia on August 29. The Agreement was signed by Roosevelt Council, Jr., General Manager of the Atlanta Airport and Wil Freeman, Managing Director of RIA. Candace Byrd, Chief of Staff for Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Cynthia Blandford, the Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Liberia, witnessed the signing ceremony.
In her remarks, Honorary Consul Cynthia Blandford said that 2017 is the 170th anniversary of Liberia’s independence, and signing the Agreement will establish bonds of cooperation between the two airports. Ms. Candace Byrd emphasized the international role of the City of Atlanta, including its hosting of the 1996 Summer Olympics. She said she looks forward to promoting extended cooperation with all of Atlanta's 18 Sister Cities, and noted that Atlanta also welcomes international investment. Atlanta Airport General Manager Roosevelt Council, Jr. also welcomed the Agreement. He said that Hartsfield-Jackson, the busiest airport in the world, is willing to share its experience with other Sister Airports.
Director General Vincent Liu met with representatives from the Georgia Governor's, Mayor's, and Atlanta Airport's offices to discuss future cooperation between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Georgia Governor Nathan Deal assigned Abby Turano, Deputy Commissioner of International Relations, Georgia Department of Economic Development, to attend the Ceremony. Ryan Pelfrey, field representative of Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA), also attended the event.
