On September 5, Director General Vincent Liu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Atlanta and Director Lynn Tai of TECO’s Economic Division addressed the members of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta at its September Members Forum.
In his presentation, “Taiwan: Small Population, Huge Economic Footprint,” DG Liu explained the functions of TECO's Atlanta office, the investment of Taiwanese companies in the Southeastern USA, the current economic conditions in Taiwan, and the trade relationship between Taiwan and the USA. Furthermore, he noted that Taiwanese trade and investment support over 300,000 jobs in the United States. Part of the “Select USA” delegation from Taiwan also visited Atlanta in June, and an agricultural procurement team from Taiwan will visit the US in September.
DG Liu also emphasized that one of TECO Atlanta’s responsibilities to the six Southeastern states is to keep them informed of Taiwan’s innovations and accomplishments that can impact developments in the Southeastern US.
Director Tai addressed topics such as Taiwan’s success in manufacturing, trade surplus, Taiwan’s science parks, how the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taiwan helps to transfer research results into application, issues facing the workforce in manufacturing, and incentives for business investment in Taiwan on land, loans and taxes.
