Director General Vincent Liu and officers from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta joined the 2017 Taste of Taiwan Gala on September 14 at The Foundry at Puritan Mill as sponsors and honorary guests. The Gala was hosted by the Taiwanese Junior Chamber of Commerce of Georgia (TJCCGA).
Taiwan’s Overseas Community Affairs Commission (OCAC) sent two top national chefs to Atlanta to demonstrate traditional Taiwanese cuisine as the ultimate cultural exchange. During the event, TJCCGA also presented the 2017 Cultural Ambassador Awards to Georgia Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and Mr. Sung Hsien Chang, former President of Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Greater Georgia (aka Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Gainesville Georgia.)
In his remarks, DG Liu praised TJCCGA for hosting the event. He commended TJCCGA for all its good work of providing and facilitating a platform for young Taiwanese and Taiwanese-American professionals to build business networks, develop professionally, and make lasting friendships.
DG Liu also noted that Taiwan was voted the World’s Best Food Country in a 2015 CNN poll. Taiwan is a food mecca that attracts travelers and “foodies” throughout the world. In his remarks, DG Liu said that Taiwan and Georgia have a long history of friendship, cultural exchange, and trade. Georgia is a major agricultural state in the US, which exports poultry and eggs to the world, and an important state to develop trade with Taiwan.
More than 500 guests attended the event, including Lt. Governor Casey Cagle; Dr. Ray Wang, OCAC Commissioner; OCAC Senior Advisor Dr. Raymond Ho, Been-Chuan Lee, and John Lu.
