The Association of Chinese Schools in the Southeastern United States (ACSSEUS) held a “Traditional Chinese Festival” Mandarin reading contest on October 14. Ellen Chiang, President of ACSSEUS, hosted the event. More than sixty students registered for the contest. Parents, local community leaders, principals and teachers were there to cheer the contestants. TECO officer Deputy Director Mike Liu, representing Director General Vincent Liu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta, and Director Chin-Ling Fu were invited to attend the opening ceremony of the contest.
In his remarks, Deputy Director Mike Liu expressed that Traditional Chinese characters are the main spirits of Chinese culture. He noted that learning Chinese does not just preserve the traditional culture, as Chinese has become one of the mainstream languages nowadays, it is also a useful skill. Director Chin-Ling Fu thanked parents and students for making efforts to learn Chinese. She also thanked ACSSEUS for organizing the event.
