The softball match organized by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta was held on October 14 at Chastain Park's Hilltop Field. Jay Lin, Johns Creek City Council member, led the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce team. Other teams, including the Georgia Tech Taiwanese Student Association team, and one from the Taiwanese American Professionals (TAP) Atlanta, led by Wellington Tzou, joined the match. More than 60 people participated in the event.
Director General Vincent Liu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta has enthusiastically promoted sports and fitness among the Taiwanese community since he arrived at the post last December. To recruit more Taiwanese community members, students, and young Taiwanese professionals for athletics, TECO sponsored all the expenses for this activity, its first organized sports event.
DG Liu threw the opening pitch. OCAC Advisor Fu-Tai Lu was the referee. Among the mostly young participants, DG Liu, Fu-Tai Lu, and Jay Lin, all got hits and scored. DG Liu thanked everyone for coming, and said he hoped they would continue to participate in TECO-sponsored games and tournaments.
