Position Available For Commercial Assistant in TECO in Boston

The Economic Division is the focal liaison point of TECO in Boston for bilateral economic, trade and investment affairs between Taiwan and New England (except Connecticut). The Division’s main mission is to promote bilateral exchange and cooperation in terms of trade, investment, technology and industrial R&D. The Assistant will assist the Economic Director in fulfilling this mission and has responsibilities including bi-lingual (English & Mandarin) communications and liaison, translations, information gathering, responding to inquiries from both Taiwan and New England businesses, and other ad hoc requests. The responsibilities also include assisting organizing investment or trade promotion seminars, attending trade shows and other events related to bilateral trade and investment.

The candidate should be a U.S citizen or PR holder. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media and good writing skills required. The ideal candidate should possess cross-cultural sensitivity, be a good team player and able to navigate socially in both Taiwanese and American settings. A working knowledge of Mandarin Chinese, oral and written, is essential, and it would be preferable if he/she holds a valid Massachusetts driving license.

The position is on an annual employment contract basis and the scheduled starting date for this position is May 2, 2016. Job description for the position of Assistant of the Economic Division -

Trade Inquiries: 1.From Taiwan –

Gather relevant information within the New England area, process and respond to Taiwan’s inquirers.

  1. From New England – At the instruction of the Economic Director, gather information pertaining to the enquiries, and then respond, or pass the info to the Economic Director for further action. For enquiries relating to procuring from Taiwan/specific manufacturers or exporters in Taiwan which are beyond the Economic Division’s ability to appropriately respond, pass the enquiries to TAITRA for further action.

Gather info on local importers/distributors and utilize the TOD system to post enquiries to TAITRA.

Business News: Review local business news, gather relevant information for reporting to Taiwan, compile brief reports in Chinese and post them onto Bureau of Foreign Trade’s website and onto the Department of Investment Services’ website.

Parameters are business/economy/technology news, reports, analytic paper, etc within New England with recent development of interest, especially in relation to Taiwan. Also, any news/media stories pertaining to Taiwan or Taiwan businesses.

Promotional Mailings: 1. Mailing of general or topic-specific promotional newsletters, such as trade shows, or event invitations, such as seminars organized by Economic Division, to corresponding database. 2. Assist holding seminars/events related to bilateral economy, trade and investment organized by the Economic Division.

Local Contact Database: Maintenance of local contact database related to business/economy. (State governments’ contacts, NE state trade centers, academia institutions and company representatives, etc.)

Resource Library: Maintain resources and references received from Taiwan and New England sources. (Trade show directories, supplier directories, government publications.)

Filing: Filing and shelving official communications/documents of the Economic Division.

Administrative work:

Handling of the transmission and registration of official communications/documents, and other administrative work at the instruction of Economic Director.
