Introduction to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office
The Republic of China (ROC) on Taiwan and the United States of America share a traditionally friendly, strong relationship. This relationship continues to progress in a wide variety of areas including, in part, educational and cultural exchanges, commerce and trade.
The ROC-U.S. relationship is governed by the Taiwan Relations Act, which was adopted by the U.S. Congress in March 1979 and subsequently signed into law on April 10, 1979. Following this, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office or TECRO (formerly named Coordination Council for North American Affairs) and its U.S. counterpart, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), were simultaneously established to continue, administer and promote ROC-U.S. relations.
With its headquarters located in Taipei, TECRO maintains an office in Washington, D.C., and branch offices in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Guam.
Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston (TECO-Boston)
Through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston, Taiwan has strengthened its ties with the five states within our jurisdiction: Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Educational and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and the New England region have created lasting friendships. This is certainly evident in the sister city relationship between Taipei and Boston and in the sister state relationship between Taiwan Province and the states of Vermont and Massachusetts.
