The Republic of China (Taiwan) and the U.S. government marked the expansion of Taiwan’s trusted traveler program, e-Gate, to U.S. citizens and the extension of Global Entry eligibility to Taiwan passport holders enrolled in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Trusted Traveler Program on October 26 and 31, respectively. Starting on November 1, 2017, Taiwan became the 12th nation whose citizens are allowed to join Global Entry and the United States is the first country to benefit from membership in Taiwan’s e-Gate Program. Taiwan passport holders are welcome to enroll in Global Entry in order to facilitate the immigration process.
- Global Entry Introduction
Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the United States through automatic kiosks at select airports.
- Global Entry Application
- Interested travelers apply through the Trusted Traveler Program’s website. The non-refundable application fee for a five-year Global Entry membership is $100 and applications must be submitted online. Once the applicant successfully passes a background check, a CBP officer will conduct an interview with the applicant at one of the more than 100 Global Entry Enrollment Centers.
- Visit CBP’s website or Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency website for more information on the U.S. Global Entry Program or Taiwan’s e-Gate program.
