TECO-Boston hosted “2013 Newton-Taiwan Day” with a parade and fair at its Culture Center in Newton in the afternoon of May 4, 2013 (Saturday) with parade and fair. The event took place in the Hyde Community Center Park and area by the Culture Center. Massachusetts State Representatives Kay Khan, together with Newton Mayor Setti Warren, Board of Aldermen Member Greer Tan Swiston, John Rice and Gregory Schwartz, and community leaders all took part in the event. Over one thousand people from the Asian and local communities attended the festivities.
Director-General Anne Hung, Director Edward Kuo of the Culture Center, local government officials, and Asian Community leaders kicked off the parade of dazzling performances attracting a large crowd of onlookers along the route. Following the parade, Director-General Hung gave welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony. State Representative Kay Khan and Newton Mayor Setti Warren extended their congratulations and recognized the contribution of TECO-Boston in promoting bilateral relations between Taiwan and Massachusetts.
The fair included an array of 45 traditional foods and crafts stands, and a photo exhibition on Superstorm Sandy Disaster Relief which was organized by the Tzu Chi Foundation, Boston, and displays for all to enjoy.
