TECO in Chicago joins the Lunar New Year Celebrations at the Detroit Institute of Arts

In celebration of Lunar New Year, the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) held a two-day celebration event on February 11th and 12th. This event introduced traditional Chinese arts and culture, performance and demonstrations. The performances at the DIA included Dragon Dance, Yang-Style Tai chi sword, Kung Fu, Chinese yoyos (diabolo), Chinese traditional music, Chen-Style Tai chi quan and Chinese opera. Calligraphy and painting, Taiwanese hand or glove puppets were also displayed at the same time.
In his remarks, Director General Calvin Ho of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago expressed his appreciation of the diversity of the DIA’s multicultural collections. Mr. Ho said that he looked forward to close cooperation and exchange programs between Taiwan and the Institute. Mr. Ho also encouraged the attendees to make good use of the newly established direct flights between Taipei and Chicago, to view the beauty of cultural treasure in Taiwan.
