The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Denver held a reception to celebrate the inauguration of the 14th term President and Vice President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) at Director General Jerry Chang’s residence on May 21, 2016. Guests include Colorado dignitaries and leaders from Taiwanese communities.
Director General Chang said in his opening remarks that May 20th marked Taiwan’s third peaceful transition of political power and Taiwan has shown the world that it is a mature democracy. In President Tsai’s inaugural speech, she emphasized that Taiwan will deepen its relationship with the United States to advance multifaceted cooperation on the basis of shared values.
Director General Chang also appreciated that the U.S. State Department issued a statement to congratulate President Tsai on her inauguration and to the Taiwan people on the occasion of this peaceful transition of power.
All participants feel it very meaningful to attend this event, and they offered warm congratulations on President Tsai’s inauguration to Director General Chang.
TECO-Denver also provided President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Chen Chien-jen’s introduction brochures, and prepared Chinese food and home-made desserts as well. The reception lasted for 3 hours, and was helpful for local officials and Taiwanese communities to know more about the new government of Taiwan.
