The Chinese American Historian Society led by Dr. Chang C. Chen holds a HERSTORY Exhibition-The legal h istory of Chinese American Women at Hawaii State main Library from March 1 to April 15, 2017, to depict the Chinese American women’s 165 years struggle to gain legal standing in the U.S. history.
The opening reception of the above-mentioned HERSTORY Exhibition was co-hosted by TECO in Honolulu and the Chinese American Historian Society to be held on Thursday, March 2nd, 2017at Hawaii State main Library. Approximately 100-strong guests from both Chinese and Taiwanese communities attended the reception.
The Director General of TECO in Honolulu Wallace Chow delivered his welcome remarks to express his appreciation to Dr. Chang C. Chen for her numerous years to collect through legal cases fought in supreme courts throughout the United States to present a rare look at Chinese American history. The Hawaii State Senator Stanley Chang lauded the sacrifice of the ancestors of the Chinese American. He was deeply moved by the stories of Chinese American women for their 165 years struggle to win the legal status. The Councilmember Carol Fukunaga presented a certificate recognizing TECO and the Chinese American Historian Society, Dr. Chen’s spectacular Power Point Presentation-Herstory: Chinese-American, 165 Years of Struggle and Success won the audience’s attention and brought the reception to a climax.
The reception also invited a renowned Taiwanese musician Dr.Tsun-Hui Hung to perform Erhu music to entertain the guests.
