“We highly praise Taiwan government’s determination and contributions to engage in all sorts of humanitarian relief programs with us,” said Robin Mahfood, the president of Food for the Poor (FFP)
FFP, the largest international relief and development non-governmental organization in USA, held the “Building Hope Gala” on February 2, 2013 at the polo Club of Boca Raton as a fund raising event for Jamaica, Haiti and other Caribbean nations. Money raised from the Gala will be used to build infant schools in these countries. Additionally, FFP will work with the local churches, schools, hospitals and other institutions that deal directly with the poor to fill their most urgent needs and to encourage self-sufficiency in those who would otherwise lose hope. More than 500 compassionate Florida entrepreneurs attended the event.
Ray Mou, director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami, was invited as a special guest of the gala. On behalf of the government of Republic of China (Taiwan), Mou handed three pieces of Taiwan brand name products to FFP for the silent auction. The Taiwanese community leaders also donated cash for the housing projects of FFP.
In his remarks, Director General Mou expressed his gratitude to work with FFP to help the destitute people, and he also reminded all the participants not to forget the ROC government’s determination to maintain a sustained relationship with FFP to help the needy by offering them concrete and timely support. Mahfood also expressed his thankfulness to the heartfelt support of the Taiwan government and praised Mou as the one of the most creditable partners of FFP.
