Premier vows to revitalize Taiwan's audiovisual media industry
Taipei, Sept. 7 (CNA) Premier Lin Chuan (林全) said Wednesday that the government has made it a priority to revitalize Taiwan's audiovisual media industry, saying that the first and most important step is to keep domestic talent in the field at home.
It is vital to offer them opportunities to fulfill their potential, Lin said, adding that the government will also seek to attract foreign talent and promote exchanges between them and their Taiwanese counterparts.
It is also important to expand the domestic market and establish better facilities for producing films and television programs, he said.
Taiwan has strong talent in the audiovisual industry, and the country used to produce many good products, Lin said.
He made the remarks while convening a meeting on cultural affairs, during which the Ministry of Culture presented a report on proposed policies to improve the country's audiovisual industry through four main approaches -- funding, production, distribution and business environment.
In terms of funding, the ministry plans to adopt a dual-track strategy comprising government subsidies and private investment, in an effort to increase the sources of finance for the industry.
It also proposed measures aimed at cultivating more talent in the field and taking advantage of local culture in different cities and counties around the country to produce unique audiovisual products.
Other plans include efforts to develop more local TV programs, and to expand the distribution of local films, both domestically and internationally.
As a way of creating a better business environment, the ministry also proposed the formation of intermediate organizations in the audiovisual field and building bases for the industry, the report said.
