Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco’s Director General Joseph Ma and Mrs. Ma were invited to attend Utah’s Days of ’47 Parade in Salt Lake City on July 25th. Mr. and Mrs. Ma led the local Taiwanese in the parade, as they rode in an open-top limousine alongside a lion dance ensemble. Over 200 thousand people were present, chanting “Taiwan! Taiwan!” as a Taiwan flag was raised as tribute. Radio and TV stations at the event introduced Taiwan and Utah’s sister-state relationship.
Mr. and Mrs. Ma were invited by Salt Lake City to be part of the parade. Before the parade, Ma chatted with other political figures, and expressed his appreciation for this large-scale and meaningful parade that received enthusiastic participation. Director General Ma hopes that more resources can be allocated towards this event for more cultural exchanges between Taiwan and the U.S. in the future.
This Pioneer Day Parade is a big event in Utah. Following California’s Rose Parade and New York’s Thanksgiving Parade, it is the nation’s third largest parade. Television and radio stations broadcasted the event live, introducing each participating organization of the parade.
Besides attending the parade, Director General Ma also met with local politicians to further promote the close bond between Taiwan and Utah, and deepen their sister-state relationship.
