At the invitation of Professor Thomas Piketty, on February 14th, 2017, Ambassador Cyrus Chu gave a speech at Paris School of Economics on World Inequality Issues. Then on March 7th, at the invitation of John Ermisch, Ambassador Chu was invited to Nuffield College of Oxford University to deliver another speech.
Ambassador Chu has been a professor of economics for more than 30 years before he took the Ambassadorship. He has published two monographs (both by Oxford University Press) and numerous academic articles on professional economics journals. Income and wealth inequality is one of his research interests, before as well as now.
Some people have noticed the impact of globalization on inequality. On these issues Ambassador Chu have examined carefully the evidence and trend, and provide rare insights and suggestions. At the time when globalization is often blamed as a source of deteriorating inequality, it is important that some WTO ambassadors notice the issue, study it rigorously and communicate effectively with academic communities.
