A magnificent 6-course meal was skillfully prepared by two prominent Taiwanese chefs who are currently visiting South Africa. The banquet was served at a dinner hosted by Acting Representative Shih, Cheng-Maw of the Taipei Liaison Office at the Official Residence on the 29th of April.
In attendance were respected local business people, government officials, esteemed members of the media and Taiwanese community members.
In welcoming the guests, Acting Representative Shih highlighted the differences between Asian and Western cuisine and went on to attribute the evening’s success to the combined talent of the well-known chefs and the wonderful local ingredients.
The evenings’ menu started with soup and was followed by fried salmon with king oyster mushrooms, crab meat with steamed egg, three cup chicken, pan-fried green beans, ostrich steak with mushrooms, rice pudding with shrimp, vegetarian spring rolls and ended with Taiwanese custard cakes for dessert.
The two celebrated chefs, Chef Tony Huang (Associate Professor at Hsing Wu University, Taiwan and former Executive Chef Grand Hyatt Hotel) and Chef Tony Liu (Executive Sous Chef of Landis Taipei Hotel, Taiwan and former Executive Chef of Evergreen Laurel Hotel Keelung) will be touring seven South African cities during their stay namely, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Durban, Ladybrand and New Castle.
