The Gauteng International Arts Festival (GauFestival) will run in the capital city from the 29th of September to the 5th of October 2017.
The Taiwanese community in Gauteng Province is excited that they will well and truly be represented at this year's GauFestival.
On the 30th of September from 08h00 to 14h00 market goers to the Hazel Food Market (64 13th Street, Menlo Park, Pretoria) can savour traditional Taiwanese street food, such as Taiwanese sausage, Taiwanese bread, deep fried tofu, pan-fried pork filled buns, popcorn chicken, bubble tea, wheel cakes and tofu pudding.
Interested members of the public can learn how to make some of the delicious Taiwanese food. On the 3rd of October from 17h00 to 18h00 a cooking demonstration will be conducted by Chef Vicky Hung. On the menu will be Gua Bao, otherwise known as "Taiwanese Hamburgers", which is slices of stewed meat and other condiments sandwiched between steamed bread, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Fried Beef with Green Onion.
The food is the run-up to the "main course", the "Taiwan Black Bears", a trio of performance groups, who will perform at the Brooklyn Theatre on the 3rd of October from 19h00 to 20h00. The "Taiwan Black Bears" are comprised of the Nan Hua Temple, The Amitofo Care Centre and the Aboriginal Taiwanese Folk Group. Audiences are promised to be entertained and captivated through the mediums of song, dance, martial arts and drumming.
