The 31st Joint Conference of ROC-Australia and Australia-Taiwan Business Councils was held on September 15, 2017 at the Crowne Plaza Newcastle, New South Wales. Dr. Wen-Chen Chu, Chair of the ROCABC and Chairman of Taiwan Power Company led a 50-person delegation visiting Australia and co-chaired meetings with Mr. Ross Maddock, Chairman of the Australia-Taiwan Business Council Ltd. (ATBC). There were total of 140 delegates from both sides to attend this auspicious event, with the participation of prominent Taiwanese business leaders from Taiwan Power Company, China Steel, Taiwan Cogeneration Corporation, China Airlines, Taiwan Business Bank, Formosa Plastics Corporation, CTBC Bank, Tatung Company and Taiwan Cement Company etc. Representative Elliott Charng of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia also remarked on the current closer working relationship between Taiwan and Australia.
The conference confirmed complementarities and highlighted potential bilateral cooperation in six areas including Resources and Energy, Education and Tourism, Smart Health, Financial Services, Information Security and Advanced Manufacturing as well as Agribusiness. The strong and numerous Australian delegates including Rio Tinto, Whitehaven, New Hope, Link Group and Macquire Group etc. also attended this conference.
