An Evening with Mali Wu: Film, Food and the Sharing of Stories

Date: 24 September, 2018

Time: 5-8 pm

Venue: Midland Junction Arts Center

Professor Mali Wu, the foremost Taiwanese artist, curator and academic, also the co-curator of the upcoming 2018 Taipei Biennale, will be in Perth to meet art lovers as part of the "Spotlight Taiwan" series, a global initiative  of the Republic of China’s Ministry of Culture.

Mali Wu will be showing the documentary film “The Stitching Sisterhood”, directed by Taiwanese filmmaker Chien Wei-ssu, with Chinese and English subtitles. The film focuses on a women’s community project that Mali Wu worked with many years ago in Taiwan. The women participating in this project were mainly housewives who had never produced, nor even interested, in contemporary art. This project resulted in the group exhibition called "Awaken from Your Skin" curated by Mali Wu. Apart from showing this film, she will also be talking about her ongoing food project and would like the attendees to each bring a favourite dish to share and tell the stories behind the dishes.
