DG Fan is very excited to attend the event on August 29th! She has arrived this January, but due to the pandemic, this is the first time she can formally attend an ATFA event! AFTA is historical Taiwanese association, and continues to prosper till this day, but what is more, it has preserved its beliefs and spirit and passed down to its now members. DG Fan is grateful for the support ATFA has given to this office, and gives high recognition to Chairperson Jason Lin and the board members of AFTA, for their dedication to contribute to the Taiwanese community.
DG Fan also mentioned that even during the pandemic, our office remains in full function, and has kept vigilante of the effect of pandemic to provide necessary assistance to our Taiwanese expats when necessary. Our office facebook and webpage also endeavor to provide the latest information and updates of public health restrictions.
DG Fan has kept busy during the pandemic, she has held numerous webinars and online meetings with NSW government sectors, advocating Taiwan’s success in COVID prevention and its strength in PPE manufacturing. She along with President Walter Yeh of TAITRA, has recently took part as speaker in NSW Treasury’s webinar to introduce Taiwan market opportunity to NSW businesses. Amid all our efforts, Taiwanese expat community continue to provide its support and assistance, for example, the Taiwan Can Help sky writing event in this May was initiated by the Taiwanese community. The event helped substantially in raising Australian communities’ awareness of Taiwan’s claim to participate in WHA.
This year's UN General Assembly is to be held on 15 Sept. Our government in continuance of our long held principle, voices our thre appeals, first, the UN should take immediate action to resolve the inappropriate exclusion of Taiwan’s 23.5 million people from the UN system. Second, the UN’s discriminatory policy against Taiwanese passport holders and journalists violates their fundamental human rights and should be rectified immediately. Third, the UN should ensure that Taiwan has the right to participate in an equal and dignified manner in meetings, mechanisms, and activities related to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and thereby make contributions. This office will contiune to appeal to the Australian public for their support, and we ask the Taiwanese Community in Australia to join our cause.
