On July 10-11 the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium (TRO) welcomed a delegation from Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan, which travelled to Brussels to visit MEPs in the European Parliament as well as Taiwanese expats living in Belgium. The delegation, headed up by Tsai Shih-Ying, head of the Taiwan-EU Parliamentary Friendship Association, met with newly appointed chair of the EP-Taiwan Friendship Group Michael GAHLER and other MEPs from across the political spectrum. Delegates also attended a lunch discussion hosted by the TRO, which gave the group the chance to mingle with Belgium-based expats, foreign exchange students and those in Belgium on a working holiday visa.
The visit represents the first time in five years that a delegation of this kind has visited Belgium. It also coincides with the start of the ninth term of the European Parliament, giving the occasion a unique significance in advancing bilateral relations between Taiwan and the EU.
