Amb. Tsai wrote a letter to MEP Nathalie Loiseau, Chair of SEDE Sub-committee, and other MEPs in AFET committee, updating them on China’s military activities aimed at Taiwan in the vicinity of Taiwan Strait.
In the letter, Amb. Tsai highlighted that Chinese warplanes had engaged in provocative acts against Taiwan on a total of 67 days between January and 22 November this year, with increased frequency from 1-3 times between January and March to almost daily since September. In response, Taiwan Air Force made more than 4,000 sorties (2.3 times more than 2019) to intercept Chinese aircrafts, which resulted in a hike of more than 40% in Taiwan’s 2021 logistic maintenance spending compared to 2016.
Amb. Tsai urged MEPs to pay close heed to China’s military activities in the region and express their concern over the peace and stability of Taiwan Strait in concrete ways, including adopting resolutions.
