Information for Youth Mobility (Working Holiday) Visa

The Republic of China (Taiwan) government in collaboration with the Canadian government is promoting the Youth Mobility Program to facilitate access to cultural exchanges that enable youths to gain a better understanding of the other’s language(s), culture and society through a travel, work and life experience abroad.

Youth Mobility (Canada)

I. Qualifications:

   In accordance with the Youth Mobility Arrangement signed between Taiwan and Canada, applicants meeting the following qualifications may apply for a Youth Mobility Visa to enter Taiwan:

  1. Hold Canadian citizenship and reside in Canada at the time of application;
  2. Have not previously obtained an ROC (Taiwan) Youth Mobility Visa;
  3. Age: between 18 and 35 years, both inclusive, at the time of application;
  4. Purpose:    (1) Have pre-arranged an internship, workplace experience or work placement in Taiwan; or (2) Have registered at a post-secondary institution and pre-arranged either an internship or work placement in Taiwan; or (3) Intend to travel in Taiwan and work to supplement their financial resources. However, work should be an incidental rather than the primary reason for their visit to Taiwan.
  5. Family members of Youth Mobility Visa holders, including spouse and children, should not apply for visas as accompanying dependents.

II. Documentation:
     Applicants who have met the above requirements should submit the following documentation:

  1. Passport valid for at least one year from the date of application and with blank pages;
  2. ROC (Taiwan) Visa Application Form for the Youth Mobility Program duly completed and signed by the applicant; (Online Appliaction Form:;
  3. Two 45mm x 35mm(1.77 inches long x 1.38 inches wide) head and shoulder photos in color with white background taken within the last 6 months;
  4. Curriculum vitae and outline of the mobility program in Taiwan;
  5. Proof of full medical and hospitalization travel health insurance for the duration of their stay in Taiwan;
  6. Health check certificate issued within the past three months by a licensed hospital or clinic; ※ Click here for more information about the authentication of health certificate
  7. Proof of return ticket purchased or sufficient funds (about CAD$2000) to purchase a plane ticket to leave Taiwan; ※Please provide a photocopy of your airline ticket or tentative travel itinerary with specified arrival date in Taiwan;
  8. Sufficient financial proof of CAD$2,500 of living expenses; ※Please provide traveler’s checks or bank statement;
  9. Visa fee: please refer to Application fees ※Payment is ONLY accepted by Cash, Money Order, Bank Draft or Certified Cheque, which must be made payable to " Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada". Personal cheque is NOT accepted.

III. Notes:

  1. Validity of Youth Mobility Visa
    The visa is valid for a period of 12 months and for multiple entries. Visa holders may enter Taiwan from the date of issue until the date of expiry of the visa
  2. Duration of Stay
    The initial duration of stay is 180 days. No later than 15 days before expiry, an extension of up to an additional 180 days can be applied for at the National Immigration Agency service centers in the city or county of residence in Taiwan. No further extensions or changes to visas will be permitted thereafter.
  3. DON'T make irrevocable travel plans prior to obtaining your visa. Please DON'T apply if you are NOT going to enter Taiwan in 3 months..
  4. There are 1000 spaces available. Once the quota has been filled, the applicants, whose applications TECO are not able to accept, will be informed.

IV. Application Procedures:

  1.  Application Method: Applications must be submitted to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Ottawa, Toronto or Vancouver; to the Bureau of Consular Affairs (Taipei); or to any of the four regional offices in Taiwan (Taichung, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, Hualien) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  2. Application Time: 9:00AM to 4:00PM on weekdays.

  4. TECO reserves the right to withhold disclosure of the reasons for disapproval of your visa application, and to withhold the fees deemed non-refundable.
  5. If you prefer that we return your passport by mail (especially for applications by mail), a self-addressed and prepaid return envelope should be enclosed. Please be reminded that the visa application fee DOES NOT include the return postage. This office assumes no responsibility for any damages, losses, or delays therefore incurred.
