Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement: Regarding media reports that Air Canada has succumbed to Chinese pressure and dwarfed Taiwan's status on its website

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is highly concerned about this development and has instructed its representative office in Canada to lodge a protest with Air Canada, expressing the Taiwanese government’s grave concerns and requesting that this be corrected immediately.
As a sovereign country, Taiwan’s achievements in democracy, freedom, human rights, and rule of law have been universally praised by the international community. The measures the Chinese government has taken to threaten and intimidate foreign companies over its false claims will not alter the above-mentioned objective fact, and will only increase the Taiwanese people's resentment towards the Chinese government.
Taiwan and Canada have enjoyed excellent cooperation in various fields, especially economics and trade, as well as cultural, educational, and scientific and technological exchanges. In the case at hand, we appeal to the Canadian government to provide strong backing for its private sector, and to work with us in safeguarding freedom of business operations by not to giving in to political interference by China.
