Through the showcase of Taiwanese movies, let more Canadian friends witness the beauty and goodness of Taiwan

To revitalize its collection of 75 Taiwanese 16 mm drama films copies, TECO Toronto has donated the copies to Media Commons, University of Toronto Libraries for research, education and private study purposes. Taking into account the restrictions of the epidemic, Director General Catherine Hsu and University Chief Librarian Larry Alford have signed the Deed of Gift respectively and completed the donation.
These movies cover the period between 1977-1994 and are considered as the pioneering films in Taiwan’s New Wave cinema movement. They present and reflect the social changes in Taiwan at that time. Moreover, the rare 16 mm film copies also have important cultural and historical value. With the professional management by #UofT, the donation will help the future reservation of this collection of Taiwanese films copies, support professionals for their researches and teachings, and further promote Taiwan-Canada cultural exchange on movies, signifying the meaning of these precious film copies.
We are especially grateful to Professor Bart Testa at the Cinema Study Institute of the UofT, who initiated the proposal, and Director of the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library Ms. Loryl MacDonald and others who actively facilitated the donation.
