Recently, A Taiwan medical group went to the Indonesia for medical treatment, and detained by immigration officials when they entered the country, and a Taiwanese went to Indonesia with his own medicines and were detained by the police when entered the country. Above-mentioned cases were investigated by the Indonesian side as saying that the medical group did not have the appropriate visa to enter and apply for a medical examination, and that the drugs carried were of a calming drug type (such as anti-depression, sleep and painkillers), and the number was over the limit. In order to prevent above incidents from happening again, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds Taiwan medical organizations to apply for visas and consult to Indonesian Economic and Trade Representative Office in Taipei before the trip, to get relevant regulations before entering the country, including for medical group to apply for various types of permits including drug entry, medical license and local medical treatment before depart for Indonesia.
In addition, for self-use drugs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises do not bring excessive amounts of calming drugs into Indonesia to avoid being punished for being classified as contraband because of the calming ingredients. If a person has to take a considerable amount of drugs to enter Indonesia because of long-term use of drugs, they should first ask the Taiwan medical institutions to open a prescription in English, in case they need to show it when necessary.
