The 2020 Holiday World Show Dublin is held from 24th to 26th January, marking the 30th anniversary of the largest tourism show in Ireland, as well as the 10th time that Taiwan participates in this event. The Taiwan Pavilion presents the “Mountain Tourism” and “Railway Tourism” as the two main axes. The opening ceremony is chaired by the representative, Pierre Yang, in the morning of 24th January; it was not surprising that the Taiwan Pavilion instantly became the focus of the exhibition.
Although Ireland and Taiwan are both islands, the island of Ireland has a flat terrain. Its highest peak, Carrauntoohil, is located in the south-west of the island, measuring roughly 1,038 meters high. This is relatively small in comparison to the 3,000-4,000 metre heights of mountains commonly found in Taiwan.
The Taiwan Pavilion showcases 24 classic routes covering the 5 major mountain ranges of Taiwan, which include the Central Mountains, Snow Mountains, Jade Mountains, Ali Mountains and Coastal Mountains. This was particularly appealing to the people of Ireland, who thoroughly enjoy outdoor activities.
In addition to the mountainous terrain of Taiwan, the rail network that winds around Taiwan, composed of high-speed rail and the main or branch line of the Taiwan railways, and especially the Alishan Forest Railway which has become an important national cultural asset for the country, one that Ireland would certainly hope to replicate in the future.
