1. Purpose
   To encourage international students (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao SAR students are not eligible) to undertake Huayu courses in the Republic of China (Taiwan); to provide them with opportunities to increase their understanding of Taiwanese culture and society, and to promote mutual understanding and interactions between Taiwan and the international community.
2. Award Value: A Monthly stipend of NTD 25,000.

4. Huayu Enrichment courses will include a two-month summer term (June to July 2020 or July to August 2020), along with short term classes, which may last 3, 6 or 9 months during September 2020 to August 2021(This office may decide the length).
5. With the exception of the summer classes, in principle, the duration of the scholarship is from September 1st 2020 to August 31st of the following year (2021). The scholarships may start in September 2020, December 2020, March 2021, or June 2021. If recipients fail to come to Taiwan for enrollment during the designated time, they will forfeit their scholarship.
6. Scholarship funding will become effective on the date of the recipient’s enrollment. Scholarship funding will end on the scholarship’s expiration date or if the scholarship is revoked.
7. Eligibility

Irish applicants above the age of 18, who possess a high school diploma or above, have shown excellent academic performance, and are of good moral character, are eligible. Individuals are NOT permitted to apply if they are:

1. An overseas Chinese student or a national of the R.O.C.
2. Currently registered as a student at a Mandarin Language Center or has sought a degree from a university or college in Taiwan.
3. A previous recipient of a HES or a Taiwan Scholarship.
4. An exchange student to Taiwan, during the scholarship period.
5. Currently receiving financial benefits from the Taiwanese government or another educational institution.
6. Application
   Applicants are required to submit the following documents to this office by April 10^st 2020:

1. An application form (see appendix, hard copy and soft copy).
2. A photocopy of his/her Irish passport.
3. A photocopy of the certificate of the highest credential and transcript.
4. Photocopies of the applications to the registered Mandarin Language Centres (see appendix).
5. The terms of agreement with applicants' signature (see appendix).
6. Two Letters of reference signed and sealed in envelopes.
7. Short autobiography (no longer than one A4 page).

12. The recipient should study at a registered Mandarin Language Center approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE).
13. The recipient should apply for admission according to the regulations of the center. Once admitted, the recipient should send a photocopy of the admission letter to this office before June 15^th 2020 (April 20^th 2020 for the two-month summer course in 2020) for confirmation. Recipients who do not send their documents before the deadline will be disqualified from the scholarship selection process.
