In Ambassador Ong’s speech, he mentioned as follows: The tense relations between the Taiwan Strait has increasingly eased since President Ma assumed office in May 2008 and his pragmatic engagement policy toward mainland China. After the signing of the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) between the two sides, Taiwan’s economic relations with the mainland will be even closer and Taiwanese investment in the mainland will also be more increased. In order to diversify Taiwanese investment into other markets, Premier Wu announced a policy with aims to strengthening Taiwan’s economic relations with India on April 23rd in which it will encourage Taiwanese business people to explore the ample Indian market. Taiwan sincerely hopes India can take hold of this opportunity to further develop its economic ties with Taiwan.
