The Statesman, one of India’s prestigious English daily, on 2 Sept. 2019 reported the call made by Dr. Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, for Taiwan to be included in the United Nations.
The report, beside pointing out the misinterpretation of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 made in the year of 1971 that is often cited to exclude Taiwan from the UN system, said Taiwan is a full-fledged democracy and has made considerable progress in fulfilling the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), quoting Minister Wu as saying.
It also said Taiwan has further identified 6 major areas of interest with respect to the SDGs- smart water management, sustainable energy transformation, clean air, sustainable materials management and the circular economy, ecological conservation and green networks, and international partnerships.
Considering Taiwan’s robust experience and contributions, it is absurd that Taiwan is barred from sharing experience and critical information that could be used to better coordinate international affairs, the report said.
