On the afternoon of August 8, 2019, Director-General Charles Li of TECC in Chennai was invited to a survey report presentation by a team of 3 students Mr. David Broman, PhD scholar, Joe Chen, MA student, and Anwar Wade, undergraduate, from National Taiwan University held at Department of Politics and Public Administration, University of Madras. Mrs. Juliana Chin, Deputy Director, also joined the presentation.
Professor Ramu Manivannan, the Head of the Department of Politics and Public Administration, University of Madras, thanked Director-General Charles Li for co-sponsoring this meaningful event of academic and practical significance and offering an opportunity for the research scholars from both universities to interact and exchange views on the SDGs, especially in the case study in India.
The team presented a video titled “Model of Local Self- Governance: Case Study of Kuthambakkam village” and shared their research findings with the research scholars and professors present. They elucidated about how the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are employed well and have been achieving successfully throughout the years at the Panchayat level under the leadership of Dr. Elango Rangasamy.
The video illustrates well about various organs and activities of this village Panchayat and their significant features and impacts such as breaking caste, irradiate alcohol, self-help groups, education, sanitation, Panchayat Academy etc. Also, they interacted with the students during the Q&A session and answered their questions on the application of this model to other villages.
