At the invitation of Dr. R. Ravanan, Principal of Presidency College in Chennai, Director-General Charles Li of TECC in Chennai on the morning of August 14 briefed an audience of over 150 students and professors on Taiwan Scholarship, Huayu Enrichment Scholarship and Taiwan Fellowship, and explained the qualification, procedure of applying for the scholarships. Director-General Charles Li encouraged the students to study hard for English proficiency and grasp the opportunity of studying for higher degrees in Taiwan. Films on Taiwan’s beautiful scenery, Indian students’ experience in Taiwan were screened. Subsequently, at the Q & A session, professors and students raised quite a few questions about detailed information on application timeline and criteria. They also expressed their strong intention of participating in the exchange and scholarship programs to Taiwan. In particular, the establishment of a Taiwan Education Center at the College was among the issues discussed. In addition to Dr. R. Ravanan, the Principal, also present were Dr. G. Krishnan, Associate Professor of the Tamil Department, Dr. Balu Gowtham, Assistant Professor of the Department of Geology, many other members of the teaching staff, and Mr. Balamurugan, Assistant to Dr. R. Natarajan, the MLA of Mylapore and an alumnus of Presidency College. Ms. Juliana Jin, Deputy Director of TECC was also present.
