Deputy Director Herbert Hsu of the Taipei Mission in Latvia presided over the opening of the Taiwan Pavilion at this year’s RIGA COMM, the Baltic region’s largest annual business and ICT expo, November 9. Dozens of Latvian participants, including government officials and business representatives, attended the opening as part of the wider RIGA COMM 2017 event.
Focusing on the theme of business technology and innovation, this year’s RIGA COMM attracted nearly 100 vendors and suppliers. In addition to the exhibition itself, the two-day event, which ran from November 9 to 10 at the International Exhibition Center Kipsala, Riga, featured a number of forums and conferences covering a range of topics.
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) organized Taiwan’s participation in this year’s RIGA COMM in order to expand business opportunities for the Taiwanese ICT industry throughout the Baltic region. In addition to setting up the Taiwan Pavilion, TAITRA also arranged for a business delegation comprising representatives of Advantech, ATEN and BroField, three of the Taiwanese ICT industry’s leading brands, to be on hand at the event.
“Taiwan is one of the world’s top five exporters of ICT products, and the five innovative industries that the Taiwanese government has prioritized are closely related to the ICT industry,”said Deputy Director Hsu in his welcoming remarks.
“Albeit relatively smaller in scale, the ICT industry in the Baltics has now developed to maturity,” Hsu continued. “Taiwan looks forward to fostering a close partnership with the Baltics to shape future cooperation and common commercial interests in the field of ICT.”
Also speaking at the opening, Jasmine Teng, director of the Taiwan Trade Center, Warsaw, introduced the audience to current developments in Taiwan’s ICT sector, as well as bilateral trade between Taiwan and Central and Eastern European countries.
RIGA COMM is a specialist expo geared toward entrepreneurs, ICT executives, and professionals working in related fields rather than the general public. Numerous vendors stopped by the Taiwan Pavilion to discuss opportunities and potential areas of cooperation with Taiwanese exhibitors.
