The “Taiwan-Baltic States Schoolchildren Painting Exhibition”, sponsored by the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia, took place at the Parnu City Central Library in Estonia from May 4th to 16th. 42 awarded paintings from Taiwan and the three Baltic States from the past 3 years of the "World School Children's Art Exhibition" were displayed, and an opening ceremony was presided by Representative Wu on May 4th. More than 50 teachers, parents and students attended the ceremony along with Hon. Juri Jaanson from the Estonian parliament and Parnu Deputy Mayor Mr. Marko Sorin.
In his remarks Representative Wu pointed out the important role that Taiwan’s civil society plays in national development, citing the continuous efforts of the Taiwanese Association for Education Through Art for holding “World School Children's Art Exhibition” for the past 48 years as a solid example. He praised Estonian children for winning one silver, four bronze awards and 22 selected diplomas during their very first participation in the year 2017 and thanked the Parnu city government for facilitating Estonian children’s participation to the Exhibition. Hon. Jaanson and Mr. Sorin also took turns to deliver remarks and expressed gratitude to the Taipei Mission for inviting Estonian children to participate in the wonderful international cultural event. They encouraged Estonian students to continue develop their interests in arts and other activities, and to become cultural ambassadors between Estonia and Taiwan.
After conclusion of the opening ceremony Representative Wu led the audience on a tour to appreciate the displayed paintings and introduced them one by one. Attendees also shared their ideas on cultural exchange matters during the reception, proving that the World School Children's Art Exhibition organized by the Taiwanese Association for Education Through Art has been a tremendously successful public diplomacy activity.
