H.E. Ambassador Jeffrey S.C. Hsiao of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Hon. Minister of Finance, Banking and Postal Services Brenson Wase of the Republic of the Marshall Islands joined for the handover ceremony of 60 tons of rice donated by the government of the Republic of China(Taiwan) as a gift for the commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Diplomatic Relations between RMI and ROC(Taiwan) on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at Majuro Stevedore and Terminal Company Compound. Secretary Bruce Kijiner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and their staff were invited to witness the handover ceremony.
At the handover ceremony, Ambassador Hsiao elaborated that the 60 tons of rice plus $12,000 USD for shipment and domestic transportation donated by the Government of the ROC(Taiwan) symbolize not only the love from Taiwan but also the cross Pacific bond between ROC and RMI. “A friend in need is a friend indeed,” Ambassador Hsiao stressed. He also took the chance to reiterate that the ROC(Taiwan) will continue to fulfill promises for both the RMI government and the livelihood of the people in need.
Minister Wase, on behalf of the Government and the people of the Marshall Islands and H.E. President Hilda C. Heine, thanked the Government and the people of the ROC(Taiwan) for the friendship and support. Minister Wase also stressed that the rice will be used for humanitarian assistance and reiterated the appreciation for H.E. President Tsai of the ROC(Taiwan) for continuous assistance.
