The Taipei Representative Office in the Netherlands invites citizens of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to apply for the 2022 Huayu Enrichment Scholarships (HES), offered by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of Republic of China (Taiwan).
These scholarships provide applicants with the opportunity to study Mandarin in Taiwan, increase their understanding of its culture and society, and promote mutual understanding and interaction between Taiwan and the Netherlands.
Award Value
A monthly stipend of 25,000 NTD.
Duration
Huayu Enrichment Scholarships may last three months, six months, nine months, or twelve months, although a very limited number of scholarships above nine months will be awarded.
Study must commence and end between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023. If recipients fail to come to Taiwan for enrollment during the above time, they will forfeit their right to retain their scholarships. The scholarships cannot be extended or deferred.
Please be noted that study is also subject to COVID-19 border restrictions.
Eligibility
Applicants above the age of 18, who possess a high school diploma or above, an excellent academic record, and are of good moral character.
Candidates to whom one of the following criteria apply are ineligible for the scholarship.
- Overseas Chinese students and nationals of the R.O.C.
- Those currently registered as a student at a Mandarin Language Centre or who have sought a degree from a university or college in Taiwan.
- Those who have previously received a HES or a Taiwan Scholarship.
- Those who will be an exchange student to Taiwan during the scholarship period.
- Those currently receiving financial benefits from the Taiwan government or other educational institutions.
- Those who are not Dutch nationals.

Application
Applicants need to submit the following documents to Taipei Representative Office in the Netherlands (Huayu Scholarship), Van Stolkweg 23, 2585 JM, the Hague, the Netherlands by post no later than 10 April 2022.
- Application form
- A photocopy of the applicant’s passport of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
- A photocopy of the certificate of the highest degree (diploma) and academic transcript.
- Proof of application to a recognised Taiwanese language centre (e.g. valid admission letter or e-mail from the language centre’s admissions department acknowledging receipt of application).
- Two English letters of recommendation signed and sealed in envelopes by the applicant’s employer, principals, professors or supervisors.
- A duly signed copy of the Scholarship Agreement.
