Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Taipei is operated by the Taipei∣Treasure Hill Artist Village. The program aligns with international artist-in-residence sites, provides artists from both Taiwan and abroad with residence opportunities and forms an open platform that also acts as a web of solid, international connections, drawing in diverse communities in various disciplines to exchange and broaden each other’s perspectives.
2020 AIR Taipei Open Call provides two different and unique artist-in-residence sites for both international and local artists of different disciplinaries: the Taipei Artist Village located at the center of Taipei City and the Treasure Hill Artist Village, a historical architectural community located by the Gongguan waterside. Since last year, the Thematic Residency Program calling for projects responded to the theme of Contemporary Meets Classical started, aiming to generate the collaboration between foreign artists and the local arts groups in Taipei. There is also a new residency opportunity focuses on projects using the medium of light that will be connected to an exhibition at the Treasure Hill Light Festival in 2020.
Additionally, for supporting the domestic artists to connect with the global art scenes, AIR Taipei has collaborated with its international partner institutions in providing flight ticket, accommodation, studio space and allowance in the International Exchange Program. In 2020, AIR Taipei will continue its partnership with Tokyo Arts and Space, Akiyoshidai International Art Village and BankART1929 in Japan, MMCA Residency Goyang and openspace bae in Korea, Grey Projects in Singapore, the City of Munich in Germany (DAC+AOA+GI), the Silpakorn University in Thailand and the Center for Chinese Contemporary Art in the UK. There are also four new partner institutions-the Points Center for Contemporary Art located in the ancient town of Jinxi, Consorci de Museus de la Comunitat Valenciana in Spain, Va Space in Iran and le lieu unique Centre for Contemporary Culture in France joining the exchange program. AIR Taipei expects to facilitate more diverse interactions between artists and art spaces, generating greater prosperity.
